The Kanbar Center at the Osher Marin JCC along with Book Passage are proud to present Annie Proulx reading from her latest novel, “Barkskins”.
Author of eight books, including “The Shipping News” (winner of the Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award) and “Brokeback Mountain” (made into a Golden Globe and Academy Award winning motion picture) her first novel, “Postcards”, was the recipient of a PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction in 1993.
Ms. Proulx's short story, “The Half-Skinned Steer”, was selected by Garrison Keillor for inclusion in “The Best American Short Stories” (1998) and a year later by John Updike for “The Best American Short Stories of the Century”.
“Barkskins”, Proulx's latest novel, is an ecological masterwork, five years in the writing: an epic, dazzling, violent, magnificently dramatic novel about the taking down of the world's forests.
Annie Proulx is one of the most formidable and compelling American writers and “Barkskins” is her greatest novel - a magnificent marriage of history and imagination.
