Richard Hartog –– – David Vassar is the director of The Spirit of Yosemite, a 23–minute documentary that plays at Yosemite––and will every day for the next 10 years. Here, he is in front of his film shown on a HDCAM (high definition) monitor in an edit bay at Laser Pacific, Tuesday evening in Hollywood. (The room is called an edit bay). The backround is an actual frame of twilight at Yosemite.

Bear Valley Resort and Backcountry Pictures presents “A Walk in the Park with David Vassar” featuring the Academy Award®-nominated and Emmy® Award-winning writer, director, producer, and documentarian, David Vassar on Friday, November 25, 2016. This VIP presentation is limited to only 150 tickets and will be presented in Bear Valley Resorts' majestic Cathedral Lounge as part of Winterfest Weekend. The presentation will be followed by a wine and cheese reception with the filmmaker and each attendee will receive a free Bear Valley 2016/17 day lift ticket valued at $79.
“A Walk in the Park with David Vassar” is an epic film retrospective through America's magnificent Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Death Valley National Parks, among others, highlighted with personal stories from Vassar's lifetime of environmental filmmaking. Scenes from Vassar's Academy Award-nominated documentary, Generation on the Wind, and the PBS special featuring California State Parks, California Forever, are also included in the program. The program also includes a sneak peek of Vassar's new film about the deserts of the American Southwest, "Exquisite Wasteland," co-produced with Sally Kaplan, which advocates for desert protection and features Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Parks, the Mojave National Preserve and others.
